Paper is a form of dried, compressed material that is thin and is produced by pressing technique by milling plant fiber. Pressing together moist fibers of cellulose pulp derived from wood, rags or grasses, and drying them into flexible sheets and thus used.
To make paper, trees are cut down and turned into wood chips. The fibers, or cellulose, are extracted from the wood chips and put into a machine called a digester to be made into a paste called pulp. The pulp is processed by a machine that flattens and dries it into paper.
Paper Making Process Before:
The paper making process in ancient times, the fibrous layers within the stem of this plant were removed, placed side by side, and crossed at right angles with another set of layers similarly arranged. The sheet so formed was dampened and pressed. Upon drying, the glue like sap of the plant, acting as an adhesive, cemented the layers together
Paper Making Process Now:
Modern papermaking Process, although significantly more complicated than the older ways, are developmental improvements rather than entirely new methods of making paper.
Probably half of the fiber used for paper today comes from wood that has been purposely harvested. The remaining material comes from wood fiber from sawmills, recycled newspaper, some vegetable matter. Other materials used in paper manufacture include bleaches and dyes, fillers such as chalk, clay, starch, gum and resin are used. High-quality papers (some still being made by hand) utilized cotton, linen, or hemp fibers, all of which were high strength yielding and very durable materials.
These raw materials gave strength and stiffness
THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
- Making pulp
- Pulp to paper
QUALITY OF PAPER:
The choice to pick a paper is not as easy as it seems. Paper comes in different sizes, types of paper making and quality. It is therefore hard to choose a better quality paper but that’s important. The initial and fundamental things that are needed to be noted before opting for paper options are
HOW TO DETERMINE QUALITY OF PAPER:
- Raw Material Composition
- Paper surface (appearance)
- Clarity, opacity and transparency
- Grammage and thickness
USAGE OF PAPER IN EVERYDAY LIFE:
- In School by students and teachers
- At Office for different documentation and arguments.
- In Hospitals for prescribing medicine
- It has a great use in technology, as we all know this is an era of digital time and all the work is based on computer, for printing different documents paper needed.
- It household for wrapping different things.
- It has a great use in chemical and mechanical industry.
